Sterilisation By Steam (Electric) Guide

Here is Lil'Kooee's guide to sterilise our products using steam sterilisation:

Step 1: Prepare Equipment And Space
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.
  • Choose an electric steam sterilser and ensure it is clean before use.
  • Set up on a clean, flat surface
Step 2: Gather All Cleaned, Disassembled Bottle Parts
  • Ensure you have completed an initial post-feed clean for all separated bottle parts.
  • Please refer to our 'Initial Post-Feed Clean' Guide for further instructions
Step 3: Load Steam Steriliser:
  • Place bottles upside down and separate teats, collars and caps in designated compartments.
  • Avoid overcrowding; allow steam to circulate freely around each part.
  • Follow manufacturer instructions regarding maximum fill levels and arrangement.
Step 4: Add Water
  • Add the specified amount of water for the steriliser in use
  • Using the correct amount is crucial to generate adequate steam without damaging the equipment.
Step 5: Sterilise
  • Turn on the steriliser according to the manufacturer's instructions
  • The equipment is sterilised when the steam has circulated and the timer finishes.
Step 6: Cool and Remove Safely
  • Allow the steriliser to cool slightly before opening to avoid steam burns.
  • Use clean tongs or hands washed immediately prior to remove bottles and parts
Step 7: Dry Thoroughly
  • Some electric steam sterilisers have built-in drying capabilities. In this case, follow the manufacturer's instructions to let the drying cycle complete - this helps reduce water spots and ensures bottles are ready to store immediately.
  • If your steriliser does not have a built-in drying function, place sterilised items on a clean, dedicated drying rack and allow them to air dry completely before storing or reassembling.
Step 8: Store Safely
  • Once dry, store bottles and parts in a clean, covered container.
  • Use within 24 hours for maximum hygiene if stored at room temperature.

Extra Tips:

  1. Electric steam sterilisation is gentler on silicone.
  2. Inspect all parts regularly for wear, cracks or discolouration.
  3. Follow manufacturer guidelines for all products
