Sterilising By Microwave Guide
This is Lil'Kooee's explanation to why microwave sterilisation is not a suitable sterilisation method for Polyamide (PA).
Polyamide is a premium, high-quality material which has a high heat resistance of <200°C - making it suitable for standard sterilisation methods such as Boiling or Electric Steam Sterilisers, mitigating microplastic shedding during these heated processes..
However, Polyamide is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs water from the air. In a microwave, this absorbed moisture heats far too rapidly due to the microwave energy. This causes uneven heating or "hotspots", deformation or even localised degradation of the nylon.
For this reason, and because plastics in general aren't designed for microwave use, we DO NOT recommend microwave sterilising our bottle-feeding products.
For the best results, we recommend sticking with boiling or electric steam sterilisation - it is safe, effective and ensure your bottles last longer.
